Summer has well and truly arrived here in Sidmouth, and June is arguably one of the most glorious times to experience our beautiful stretch of the Jurassic Coast. When the sun is shining and the sea breeze is calling, the last thing you want to do is worry about loading up the car and hunting for a parking space. That is precisely why so many of our guests love the location of Sea-Renity. Situated on a quiet residential road just behind the main high street, our holiday home offers a brilliant seaside luxury: a completely level, six-minute walk right to the water’s edge.
Strolling Through Town
The journey from our home to the shore is an absolute delight. For a handy shortcut, you can slip through our private back gate and down the passage, bringing you instantly closer to the vibrant town centre. Because the route is entirely flat, it is a wonderfully easy stroll for everyone in the family. You can leave your vehicles securely parked on our private driveway—a rare benefit in the middle of Sidmouth—and simply enjoy the freedom of exploring on foot.
As you wander towards the sea, you will pass through the charming high street, renowned for its lovely Regency architecture and a fantastic array of independent shops. It is the perfect excuse to take your time. You might find yourself pausing to admire the boutique window displays, picking up some fresh local produce, or grabbing a freshly baked treat for a mid-morning snack. The town has a wonderfully relaxed, traditional feel, and being able to nip in and out of these lovely stores on your way to the beach makes the walk immensely enjoyable.
The Essential Summer Ice Cream
Naturally, a quintessential British seaside holiday requires at least one ice cream, and your walk to the shore provides the perfect opportunity. As you draw closer to the Esplanade, you will spot excellent local parlours proudly serving rich, West Country dairy ice cream. Whether you are a traditionalist who loves a simple scoop of vanilla with a flake, or you prefer a decadent honeycomb crunch, securing a cone before you hit the pebbles is highly recommended.
With your sweet treat in hand, the final few steps open up to reveal the magnificent Sidmouth seafront. The wide, flat promenade is a joy to walk along, flanked by the sweeping, dramatic red cliffs of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In June, the water is wonderfully inviting for a safe swim or a paddle, and you can often spot windsurfers and sailing boats making the most of the summer weather.
After a wonderful afternoon soaking up the sunshine, the beauty of our location is that you are only ever a few minutes away from home. You can easily pop back to the house for a fresh towel, or end the day with a cold drink in our peaceful, sun-trap garden. If you are dreaming of a coastal break where everything you need is right on your doorstep, we would be delighted to host you.
