Must visit – Boveys Down Farm Restaurant/shop

Now that June is upon us and summer is properly in full swing, there is nothing quite like a drive through the beautiful East Devon countryside. While Sidmouth has plenty of fantastic places to eat right on our doorstep, sometimes it is lovely to venture just a little way out of town. On a recent afternoon out, we decided to drop by Boveys Down Farm to visit The Barn Restaurant. It is one of those wonderfully quiet spots that remains relatively off the beaten track and away from the usual tourist crowds, making it a brilliant find if you fancy something authentic and relaxed.

Situated just a short drive from Sidmouth, Boveys Down Farm offers a delightfully traditional, no-fuss dining experience. The Barn Restaurant itself has a brilliant atmosphere with a genuine rustic feel that instantly makes you feel at ease. It is the sort of place where you can kick back after a long morning walking the rural lanes or coastal paths and just enjoy some hearty local food. The absolute standout from our visit had to be their pies. If you are a fan of traditional British pastry and rich, flavourful fillings, you are in for a real treat. They serve up generously portioned, proper homemade pies that are quite simply mouth-watering. Paired with fresh local vegetables and a good helping of gravy, it is exactly the sort of comforting, delicious meal that hits the spot. The staff are incredibly welcoming too, bringing that classic warm Devon hospitality to the table. It is easily one of the best-kept secrets in our local area for a cracking lunch. But you should check their opening hours via their website here.

After filling up on glorious pastry and enjoying the rural scenery, the drive back down to the coast is an absolute breeze. The beauty of staying at Sea-Renity is that you get the absolute best of both worlds. You can spend your afternoon exploring the quiet countryside and farm shops, before returning right to the heart of Sidmouth. Because we have the rare benefit of private off-street parking for two cars, you never have to worry about finding a space when you get back. You can simply pull onto the drive, leave the car behind, and completely relax. Once you are back, you might fancy a fresh coffee from our Dolce Gusto machine, taking it straight out through the double doors into our enclosed rear garden. It is a proper little sun trap in the late afternoon, perfect for unwinding with a good book.

Alternatively, if you want to stretch your legs after that hearty farm lunch, the flat promenade and the beach are just a gentle six-minute level walk away from the front door. With three spacious, beautifully furnished bedrooms and plenty of room for up to six guests, the house is a brilliant base for families or friends wanting to experience everything East Devon has to offer. If you are planning a summer getaway and fancy trying out some of our favourite local dining spots like Boveys Down Farm, we would absolutely love to host you.
